A hybrid monster opera for people aged 16 and over
with a libretto by Lisa Pottstock
The medieval Melusinen legend is linked in this work with the feminist and queer struggle for the right to self-determination of one's own body. The fact that Melusine has to keep her ambiguous body a secret in order to live in human society is the mythological motif for the two award winners Catalina Rueda and Lisa Pottstock, the political and social consequences of which extend to the present day. The ambiguous body that changes and reshapes is censored in the patriarchal, heteronormative society. Or just made a monster. We are pleased to be the first cooperating institution to bring the award-winning work of the first Reinhold Otto Mayer Prize to the stage.
